A superb field of 68 BriSCA F2 Stockcars assembled for their first round of their 2005 track championship with 23 cars for the opener and 448 John Wright hitting the fence early as a pile-up claimed 776 Glen Bonney, 434 Mark Gardiner and 609 Brandon Davies as 819 Paul Richardson headed the field with 766 Richy Kemo giving chase as further down the order 379 Stuart Cayzer and 554 Stuart Finnikin got hooked briefly. 713 Martin Ford removed Wright and Richardson did the same to 304 Jamie Huntington but this allowed Kemp to slip into the lead with 433 Steve Lilley and 519 Stephen Lawrence close behind while 377 Daz Shaw started to move up as the lead red top. 975 Gwyn Miller slowed off the place while lying in fifth and as Lawrence and Lilley fought for second, Shaw was able to slip past both of them but he couldn't catch Kemp who kept his cool and took the flag, Ford claiming third after Lawrence gave Lilley a big hit at the start of the final lap which only served to sideline them both.

One less for heat two with a similar theme as 366 Mick Kemp led them off as behind 599 Jonathan Lawrence gave 145 Graham Mole a mighty hit going into the pit bend. 284 Jody Griffin took up the running as 362 Dave Harley removed north west visitor 725 Paul Broach and 70 Brian Shadbolt and a recovered Mole found the found. Kemp briefly moved back into the lead when Griffin fell by the way side but he lost his groove soon after and 231 Matt Clayton burst through and held off 382 Mark Short and 37 Tony Smith to take the spoils with 732 Daz Kitson the top red grade driver in fifth spot.

Back to 23 for the final heat with 606 Andy Palmer an early spinning as 260 Anthony Winters made the early running. A turn two pile-up included 38 Dave Polley, 130 Daniel Ford and 49 John Davies in its victims as 495 John Cayzer moved himself into the lead ahead of 252 Rick Irving and Winters although 977 Dave Massey broke into the top three soon after before he moved to the front only to be removed by long distance traveller from the south west 111 Lewis Geech which gifted Irving the lead and he held off 81 Mark Clayton to win with 559 Bert Finnikin in third.

21 for the first consolation but it was short lived at the first attempt when 288 John Colyer rolled on the back straight. He climbed out unscathed and we were soon underway again with 999 Dave Savidge spinning as Brandon Davies led Griffin and 924 Martin Pearson. 387 Simon Harrison went round and was collected by 748 Jason Irving as towards the front Gardiner and Miller were having a great tussle for fifth. Broach was the man on the move though breaking into the top three, hammering Griffin out of the way for second and then slipping past Davies for third lead before motoring to a fine win while behind him Griffin past Davies for second in the final laps.

Just 18 for the second consolation with Winters making the early running ahead of 650 Mark Kiff and 645 Richard Shearing as Lilley spun from contention as did 606 Andrew Palmer and the luckless Geech. Shearing moved into second while 13 Andy Ford quickly raced into fifth with 38 Dave Polley not too far behind. Shearing then took the lead but it was short lived as he lost control and was whacked by 136 Chris Ford which actually put him on the right path again but he lost the lead back to Winters who held on to win with Andy Ford taking second from Shearing in the final stages.

All 32 qualifiers returned for the final which saw the reds come out in the opening lap or two when Martin Ford rolled along the back straight and the reds were shown a second time when a pile-up formed on the back straight claiming several. The third restart however was the last one with Matt Clayton leading them off as Bert Finnikin spun 744 Tom Smart which saw them both drop out of contention while 326 Johnny Hall also spun. A wheel then came off on the back straight but fortunately it rolled to the infield and the race continued with 886 Chris Bradbury tearing through the field as the lead red top and taking the lead with five laps to go. He didn't put a foot wrong as he motored to the flag with white graders Matt Clayton, Smith and Brandon Davies all driving excellent races to fill the top spots. The Steve Fraser Photography grade awards meanwhile went to Matt Clayton (white), 656 Adam Joyce (yellow) and 81 Mark Clayton (blue).

Still 29 returned for the Grand National which started in dramatic fashion as a whole host of the front runners slid into the pit bend wall flat out resulting in a major pile-up in which Massey wound up perched on top of Wright to bring the reds straight out. The restart saw the evening's third rollover as 162 Steve Featherstone went all the way over on the back straight but was ok and the action continued with Winters getting past Smith for the lead until he lost the spot to 599 Jonathan Lawrence who never looked back and romped to the win. Shaw fired Stephen Lawrence into the fence to take second with 362 Dave Harley third and Bradbury coming from the one lap handicap to take ninth.

A storming night's action but the massive 14 race programme took its toll with the Banger DD not finishing until around 11.45pm but with so many cars it was either a late finish or some of the drivers would not have got enough racing and as it's been said before-having too many cars is a pretty good problem to have. Nonetheless some great action from the bangers with plenty of big hits combined with some superb racing plus a fine outing from the F2s which bodes well for their forthcoming season on the Suffolk shale.
