RDC's One Wild Night 2011
National Bangers BBA Supreme Championship and Saloon Stockcars

The 2011 staging of the BBA Supreme Championship raised a fine field of 125 National Bangers to Mildenhall on March 26 featuring drivers from every ORC promotion and the 33 qualifiers for the main event bearing many of the sport’s current top names. As expected it was a Mondeo dominated pit area with only a handful of exceptions while the big talking point was on the team front. The main feuding potential for the title race came from the two Condoms and same number of Team Black although the latter side had a handful more in the support. The Midnight Runners were well subscribed throughout the programme as were the Gladiators while the Cream Team providing a major talking point, not only out in big numbers but their ranks including guest appearances from 60 Kyle Stevenson, 451 Willy and 551 Danny Blackwell, 450 Glyn Platts and 455 Rick Finney while elsewhere the Aftermath and Mad Hatter Young Guns also had reasonable showings.

As it tradition the title race was first which was disastrous for 239 Steve Carter who owing to a break down en route arrived too late for the event leaving the remaining 32 finalists to take to the track. Following the driver introductions an Incarace draw was held to determine the grid which placed 20 Andy Burbridge (Primera) on pole alongside 589 Simon Smith with 180 Mark and 382 Jack Foster Jnr behind, 425 Martin Stopher (Vectra) and 682 Paul Sparrow on row three and 331 Jason Jackson and 516 Carl Gould (Vectra) behind. With the forecast rain for the afternoon not arriving it left the track perhaps too dry as the dust quickly flew as the green fell but thankfully it soon settled with 589 Smiffy Jnr making the break up front as 390 Dave Gibson was fired into the wall by the pack and 682 Sparra Boy was the first spinner closely followed by 791 Nicky Young (Vectra) at the hands of 200 Steve Farrell. 382 Chubby eased past 20 Baldy for second before 331 Boxer Jack lunged at the former to take the second spot and at the five lap mark the Midnight Runner moved into the lead ahead of Smiffy Jnr, Chubby, Baldy and 516 Gouldy. 67 Mark Whittaker fenced the Cougar of 61 Darryl Theedom as Smiffy Jnr challenged Chubby for second and Baldy did the same to 370 John Cobbold as they battled over a minor spot. 425 Mr Vauxhall clawed his way to fourth ahead of Gouldy and 119 Davey Cox (Vectra) as 998 Wayne Cotterill Jnr attacked Condom rival 204 Charlie King and eventually span him on the road bend. 247 Lee Clarke fenced defending champion 208 Jim Randall as 119 Cruncher moved to fifth as the race hit lap nine with 67 Sparky and 247 Bro next. Gouldy and 791 Spud were the next to spin as Boxer’s healthy lead came to nothing when he retired with a blown tyre just as the race hit half way. Chubby now led with Bro storming up to second, Mr Vauxhall, Sparky, Cruncher and Smiffy Jnr next until the latter was removed by 190 Steve Bailey who in turn broke into the top six. Bro slowly reeled in Chubby and made his challenge on lap 14 and soon took over up front as Cruncher span Mr Vauxhall leaving the latter prone to a wicked hit from 180 Sparky. Bro tangled with 492 Dean Harper (Bluebird) but continued to lead with Chubby still second, Sparky now third and then Pikey and 673 Darren Fendley who were having a great scrap for fourth. 128 Mark Atkins tangled with and stuffed Cruncher on the pit bend as Chubby crashed out in a back straight crash with 492 Mullet. This allowed 204 Charlie Boy to blast the former as Mullet was slaughtered by another fierce hit from Sparky before 998 Cotty Jnr weighed in hard on Charlie Boy. Bro now held a decent advantage as the race entered the final five with Pikey and Fendley now scrapping for second and 200 Noon up to fourth. Gouldy removed Baldy as Bro reeled off the final laps to add the Supreme title to his English crown, having started on row 11. A photo finish seeing Noon pip Pikey on the line for second and Fendley just behind in fourth, all three having also started near the back while 205 Dave Walsh came from the final spot on the grid to finish fifth. Completing the top 10 were 208 the Finger, 577 Alfie Lee, Cobbold, Gouldy and 53 Dave Palmer.

With plenty of feuding factions among the near 40 car field for heat one fireworks were expected and it didn’t take long for Willy Blackwell to bury 106 Phil Pratchett before 60 Shaky Jnr turned round to blast 457 Dan McCormack. 200 Wayne Holton then stuffed 51 Paul Licquorice as Willy Blackwell ran into the driver’s door of the spun 54 Martin Lawton which brought the reds out for the latter but not before 837 Martin Wesby had nailed 101 Richard Rayner. Sadly 54 Splat suffered a rib injury in the hit and it was a short delay while he was cut from his car and taken for treatment. The race soon resumed and the war kicked off again as Finney turned round to blast 363 Sam Keep before 688 Steve Collins spotted Pratchett and homed in for an almighty head-on. 200 Skippy meanwhile fired into 234 Dan Parry before 549 Phil Smith dished out a wicked hit over the rear wheel on Collins. Willy Blackwell turned round to give McCormack a big hit and Platts also went against the flow to blast Keep before 533 Richard Coe arrived to give Collins a fierce head-on. Skippy now turned round and again set about Parry as Platts arrived on the pit bend to give Coe a mental head-on. As the track became completely blocked by the pit gate 303 Wayne Linsdale and 719 Chris Storey pounded the luckless 506 Anthony Emson before Willy Blackwell met 100 Callum White on the nose. Parry enjoyed one of the same with 508 Harry Bradbury as Willy Blackwell fenced 313 Craig Osbourn and Storey did the same to 256 Chris Filby. The track again became blocked which allowed 898 Andy Battle to blast the luckless Filby before Linsdale nailed 324 Mark Lathan (Vectra). Willy Blackwell and Pratchett met in a solid head-on as Linsdale powered into 567 Gary Brown to clear a way through the pile-up and 988 Kane Collins landed a hard T-bone to the luckless Filby. 342 Carl Davies then spotted the lurking Coe and landed a full bore hit over the latter’s front wheel against the wall while McCormack and Willy Blackwell enjoyed a solid head-on. Davies then caught fire and at the exact same time 148 Ian Redden performed a spectacular ¾ roll on the pit bend, the combination of the two bringing the reds out just as 100 Captain Cock nailed Willy Blackwell. The race was declared in favour of Battle ahead of 207 Billy Randall and Brown, just seventh finishing.

Just over 40 for the second heat and with the feuding sides again out in numbers this was another savage affair. 466 Steve Hackett spotted 206 Phil Milner immediately on opposite and delivered a big hit over the front wheel as a big push behind quickly caused a pit bend pile-up. Smiffy Jnr met 662 Jim Harding on the nose as 341 Andy Jones followed 862 Liam Reach into the pit gate which also claimed 141 Andy Neal and triggered a fine wrecking train. 391 Wayne Shinn nail 341 Jonesey with 456 Nathan Roberts blasting 391 Ol Matey in turn. He took one himself from 101 Keith Roberts with 193 Nick North completing this train as on the inside of this another pile-up quickly formed in which 239 Nemesis T-boned 525 Wes Starmer before 466 Big Job picked out 768 Danny McSweeney for a stiff hit only to take one himself from 515 Gareth Flatters. North meanwhile nailed Ministox graduate 2 Georgie Lee with a head-on before Harding went against the flow to blast 206 Turkish. 418 Ben Chapman blasted North as 292 Sam Betteridge added 603 Jon Cooper to the heap on turn four, 17 Kyle Overy blasting the former in turn only to take one from 695 Mark Mason who was nailed in turn by 170 Darren Teal. 17 the Little Chief was the T-boned by Nobby as 392 Sam Baines followed Big Job in superbly on the pit bend with 88 Ash Burton powering into the former and stuffing him into Roberts. 714 Paul Smaldon blasted 88 Ace Ash in turn as Roberts buried himself in the back of Ol Matey before the reds came out to assist a shaken 990 Glen Civil on the back straight. A complete restart was ordered and started in style with three big hits all at the same time on the pit bend. A big push saw 6 Lee West, aided by 4 Sam Nice, followed in 44 Roy Elborn hard while just behind 50 Jason Sanderson, aided by 160 Perry Willings, ran in McSweeney and a few cars lengths behind Chapman followed North in with a rated hit. Ol Matey now hit 532 Chris Walsh on the nose before Big Job met the lurking Smiffy Jnr in a massive head-on, Sanderson the delivering a meaty hit on the former as Smiffy Jnr met Roberts on the nose. Turkish went against the flow to hit Danny Blackwell head-on with West then T-boning the former only to take a hard hit from Ol Matey. The lively Sanderson then stuck it to 230 David Long as 525 Wes Starmer weighed in with a stonking head-on to Smiffy Jnr, Chapman blasting the former hard in turn which left Chapman open to a belting T-bone from Ol Matey. 15 Lee Weeks crashed heavily into the latter’s front wheel as West blasted Smiffy Jnr head-on. Betteridge meanwhile dumped Weeks into Turkish’s motor as Jonesey ignored a black flag to meet Ol Matey on the nose and earn himself a load up. Nobby meanwhile hammered Walsh while 384 John Golden survived a head-on with the latter to take a flag to flag win from Teal and Nobby, just six going the distance.

40 cars again for the first Allcomers and despite the absence of the Gladiators and Cream Team this was still a livelier affair although it failed to match the standard of action set in the heats. Lathan began by fencing 51 Paul Licquorice before the former fell foul of a road bend pile-up which also claimed Gouldy and Licquorice recovered to give Storey a hard hit, the latter also T-boned hard by 862 Reachy. 384 Goldie then blasted the spun 690 Del Boy and 714 No Show nailed Filby while the luckless Del Boy took more stick, this time from 603 the Younger Hitman before Pikey wrecked 160 Pez with a hard shot on the pit bend. On the road bend 540 Scott Allen buried himself in the boot of Lathan only to take a hard hit in turn from the Younger Hitman as back on the pit bend Pikey buried Reachy into the stricken McSweeney. A back straight melee allowed Sparra Boy to give the spun Younger Hitman a hard T-bone with the Finger then firing into the latter. Meanwhile the scrapping Goldie and Charlie Boy sent 585 Kevin Giles crashing into Del Boy and Allen followed Betteridge in nicely. The race then turned quiet until Pikey followed Baldy in hard on the road bend and Rayner treated Reachy to a head-on, the recovered Betteridge ending things with a shot on the determined Younger Hitman. Osbourn raced to the win ahead of Chubby and Sparra Boy.

The numbers dipped to 29 for the second Allcomers and even with the return of some of the feuding teams this was the quietest race of the night by some margin. It started with 299 Dale Lockyer firing into 339 Jack Garrod as a small pile-up quickly formed on the road bend. 148 Shorty attacked Georgie Lee which caused 100 Captain Cock to land a hit in the latter’s front wheel before he came under fire from Roberts. North landed a shot on 392 Baino before 390 Gibbo fenced Platts. 244 Colin Burnham then clobbered the spun Danny Blackwell with Collins homing in for a rated shot on the former. Lockyer attacked Roberts only to take one from 64 Barry Lee (Vectra) as 200 Noon took the win from 101 Nobby and 400 Kevin Shinn, the latter coming under fire from 17 the Little Chief on the run down lap.

With the curfew an hour away the drivers were afforded some extra time prior to the last race and this resulted in a fine 40 car field for the Accumulator qualifier and DD and again with the feuding factions present in numbers this was a cracking end to the evening. Reachy began by fencing Filby as Rayner followed in Pikey on the road bend, the pair making it to the pit bend where a hit from Boxer on the former put his team mate back in the wall and prone to a hit from Ace Ash and a solid head-on from Ol Matey. Reachy again stuck it to Filby with a solid hit which left the former open to another cracking hit from Collins as Filby rammed the passing 328 Dan Lathan in the front wheel. Turkish then followed in Nemesis as the Finger weighed in with a hard head-on to the spun 400 Shinny. Collins continued to nail Turkish as 174 Dave Osbourn blasted the spun Georgie Lee head-on and buried him into the pit gate backwards. Shakey Jnr re-joined from the infield, for which he was black flagged, but he duly blasted Smith as Turkish caught fire on the home straight. Shinny now blasted Georgie Lee with a T-bone as Smiffy Jnr followed Shakey Jnr in a treat on the pit bend with 174 Whipper homing in on the latter as Brown nailed North before the Little Chief buried Charlie Boy into the latter. 162 Brett Ellacott took the win from Boxer and the Finger as Shakey Jnr absorbed more punishment from McCormack and Smith and Ace Ash followed in Brown before the DD officially begun. Smith again pounded the game Shakey Jnr as Brown evened the score on Ace Ash with a fencing and Licquorice delivered a flat out blitz on Nemesis at the end of the back straight. Rayner homed in for a cracking head-on to Smiffy Jnr but duly took a monster blitz in turn from Shinny as Captain Cock followed in the Finger on the road bend and Brown also earned a black flag when he came off the centre to T-bone Shinny. Licquorice duly arrived for a meaty head-on with Brown as Sparky picked up Captain Cock who latched onto the Finger and thundered him through the side of Rayner’s wreck. The Finger rallied back to hit Shinny on the nose with Licquorice then blasting the former and stuffing him into the home straight wreckage before Captain Cock landed a storming hit on Brown only to take one in turn from Sparky. The latter went on to trade blows with Licquorice as Captain Cock blasted the Finger who held him in place for 507 Danny Brown to nail the Aftermath young gun. Captain Cock battled on to nail Sparky over the rear wheel with the Finger hitting him in similar fashion before a solid head-on between Cock and the Finger allowed Danny Boy to nail the latter. Sparky and Licquorice went head to head as Captain Cock enjoyed head-ons with the Finger and Sparky before the latter two finally finished the Aftermath pilot. This left the MNR pairing to battle Danny Boy and several hits were exchanged, a solid head-on with the latter finishing Sparky first before the Dirty Half Dozen flag bearer outlasted the Finger with several head-ons and hits over the front wheel, Captain Cock taking the entertainer trophy.

Round two of the Saloon Stockcar track championship raised a slightly lower than expected entry of 26 cars with once again no long distance travellers on hand although there were a few different faces from the previous meeting including 298 Ian Elms on his first outing in the formula in almost 20 years.

A full field for heat one with the freshly watered track catching out Elms, 2 Paul Tuppen, 149 Jamie Sampson and 360 Carl Waterfield in the early going as 321 Ryan Mee set the pace before 420 Ivan Street also went round. 233 Rob Aldridge moved into the lead with 184 Marty Colliver behind as 389 Ryan Santry hooked out Mee and 698 Danny Colliver did the same to 731 Barry Wade. The former then span 164 Neil Kent who was subsequently hammered by the pack as Marty Colliver took the lead only to spin himself exiting turn two and hand the lead back to Aldridge. 219 Luke Grief attacked 499 Dave Aldous who did very well to not spin while 191 Shaun McMillan removed 5 Mo Crowson and he was hit head-on by 428 Lee Sampson and 18 Jamie Clayton span shortly after hitting the top three. Waterfield dumped out Street before the fired up Clayton removed the leading Aldridge which handed the lead to 570 Simon Venni who celebrated by spinning Lee Sampson. However this cost him time and 318 Fred Kinsella the lead as Venni turned aside Danny Colliver who was hit by 641 Willy Skoyles Jnr. Kinsella meanwhile raced to his maiden win in the formula ahead of the ever improving 442 Simon Berry and Venni.

Just one missing for heat two which was a better affair, Kinsella lunging at Street as things got going while Elms, Tuppen and McMillan all span before Kent crashed into the infield blocks. Aldridge again set the pace with 728 Kris Woods quickly into second ahead of Danny Colliver as Grief hooked out Kinsella. Clayton then dumped out Jamie Clayton as Grief lunged up the inside of 156 Darren Goudy. Waterfield had emerged as the leading red top but was barely in the top 10 as Aldridge continued to set a fine pace before Woods span from contention. Lee Sampson fired Goudy into the wall hard before Crowson span Santry into the inside concrete. Aldridge still led from Marty and Danny Colliver with Street, Crowson and Waterfield next as behind Venni lunged at Wade to gain a place. Crowson meanwhile moved to fourth while Aldous stormed to fifth and Jamie Sampson had Skoyles Jnr around. The fired up Venni now squeezed Berry into the wall while Clayton fenced Tuppen as Aldridge raced to the win from Marty Colliver and Waterfield.

Down to 23 for the final with McMillan removing Woods at the start and he was subsequently collected by Tuppen which caused a minor traffic jam in the middle of the pack as Mee set the pace from Aldridge, McMillan, Danny Colliver and Wade while Tuppen put Berry in the wall. Goudy had Clayton around before McMillan hooked out Mee in the battle for the lead which promoted Danny Colliver to the front on lap four as McMillan was also dumped out by the pushing traffic behind. Marty Colliver moved up to second ahead of Wade, Rob Aldridge and Street as Woods went round on the road bend to cause a small pile-up in which Grief hit the wall. Kinsella removed Aldridge which promoted Wade to third while Aldous had climbed to sixth as the lively Clayton landed a big hit on Santry. As the race hit half way Marty Colliver got in front of brother Danny to lead with Wade, Aldridge, Berry, Aldous and Waterfield next in line as Kinsella stuffed Crowson. Berry span Aldridge to take fourth as Venni crashed out on the road bend. Waterfield now charged into fourth with five to run as Aldridge came under attack from Tuppen. But Marty Colliver was clear and raced to the win, Waterfield getting the better of Danny Colliver in the closing stages for second with the latter holding off Aldous for the final podium spot while further down Berry just beat Jamie Sampson on the line for seventh.

Heat one: 318 Fred Kinsella, 442, 570, 156, 499, 219, 360, 728, 731, 5
Heat two: 233 Rob Aldridge, 184, 360, 499, 5, 420, 219, 570, 18, 731
Grand Final: 184 Marty Colliver, 360, 698, 499, 731, 428, 442, 149, 18, 728
