Tote Betting

What is the tote?

In common with all racecourses in Britain, Mildenhall Stadium uses a Totalisator, or Tote for short, system to enable our customers to bet on racing.

The Tote was introduced to Britain in 1928 but until the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act of 1934 legalised its use at greyhound tracks the Totalisator had only been in operation at horse race meetings.

How the Tote works

Bets placed by patrons determine the odds of each of the runners. All money invested in the race is pooled. The number of winning units on the race divides the pool and a dividend, inclusive of stake money, is declared. You can place a bet either by visiting one of the Tote Booths located in the stadium or, if you are dining in our restaurant, a Tote Runner service may be available.

There are six different types of ‘betting pools’ available on the Tote: WIN, PLACE, FORECAST, TRIO, JACKPOT & LUCKY DIP.

WIN • Select the trap you think will win the race
Place a minimum £1 bet, state the number of the trap you want to win

PLACE • Select the trap you think will place 1st or 2nd
State the number of the trap to finish 1st or 2nd

FORECAST • Select two traps to finish 1st and 2nd in the correct order
State two traps to place 1st, then 2nd (eg. £1 bet=a 50p stake on each trap)

REVERSE FORECAST • Select two traps to finish 1st and 2nd in any order
State two traps to place 1st and 2nd, any order (eg. £1 bet on each trap=£2)

COMBINATION FORECAST• Select 1st and 2nd place from 3 traps, in any order
State three traps, two which may have 1st and 2nd place (eg. £1 bet on each trap=£3)

TRIO • Select three traps to finish 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the correct order
State three traps to place 1st, 2nd, 3rd in right order (eg. £1 bet on each trap=£3)

COMBINATION TRIO • Select three traps to finish 1st, 2nd, 3rd in any order
State three traps to place 1st, 2nd, 3rd any order (eg. £1 bet on each trap=£3)

FIELD BET (TRIO) • Select any trap to place 1st, any traps 2nd and 3rd win the Trio

JACKPOT • Pre-select the traps you think will win all the races marked ‘Jackpot’
Winning all legs (jackpot races) ensures a dividend (share of payout)
