28 cars for the first of four heats with 711 Phil Green (Volvo 240 estate) to first to show burying Corsby and he continued to meet 130 Jason Harrison on the nose with Bailey turning round to blast the latter before 217 Lee Weekes (Volvo 240 estate) piled 141 Mark Lee's Mk1 Granada into 841 Frank Williams before 436 Matt Arnold (Mk1) did the same to 116 Mark Want with 324 Mark Latham (Volvo 740 estate) feeling the force of the impact. Plenty of action on the run down lap as Arnold stopped 116 Wanty head-on which claimed the Worm who was trashed by 102 Steve Burrows as 273 Mad Mouse turned round to steam Wanty and 67 Sparky blasted Burrows just after the reds.

Burrows came back to bury Bennett into Arnold as Stalky had a pop at Coe and Sharky blasted Bazza before Corsby splintered Coe with a big hit and Sharky blew Burrows only to take a big hit from Psycho. Mad Mace repaid Bazza with a T-bone as Prince gave Psycho two hits as did 917 John Millen. Girling sorted the Legend but was T-boned by Lown while Dove Toe Joe went in on Philo which was quickly repaid with a T-bone before 74 Mad Joe T-boned the P5. The Cheat came through to win

The Cheat hit Sparky and 131 Wadey fenced Herbert as 249 Matt Frost (Volvo 240 estate) put in 41 Paul Bearne and 752 Mad Sam did the same to Scarlett while Sparky blasted 115 Rosy. 269 Scotty and Mallion enjoyed a head-on while a thrilling finish saw 31 Ian Holland spin Palmer on the last bend looking for the lead but they tangled with Sparky blasting the former while Palmer was spun again and in a photo finish Lewis narrowly beat Winchester home with Wadey and 41 Beanie in the trophy spots and Sparky awarded the best entertainer.

Just 16 for the Accumulator but it was still lively with 313 Cully attacking Williams only to cop it from Frosty as 269 Scotty hammered Mushy with the latter wasted by Cully who felt the force of Mad Mouse with 312 Tom Reynolds (Volvo 240 estate) T-boning the latter. Girling turned round for a hit on 17 Caveman with 202 Porky on oppo to do the Yank before Mouse turned round to blast the Coupe.441 Barry! buried 312 Turbo as Scotty wasted Butts only to take one from 462 Leeky as Turbo dished out a massive T-bone to Barry! leaving the latter in trouble with the race called early in favour of Haywood from Williams Turbo with Cully taking the entertainer award.

A decent 25 came back for the DD with Dorkins hitting Douglas on the nose with Mark Millen doing the latter as Kamikaze hammered Sparky as Mace blasted Millen only to feel the force of Williams with the Kent champ getting done by Charlie Cunningham and Psycho with the latter taking a massive head-on from Winchester leaving the latter in distress while Corsby rolled on the top bend to bring the reds out. We restart with Mad Sam burying Coe into Williams as 312 Turbo did 788 Darren Gathercole allowing 171 Lee Madden (XJ) to do the former as did Kamikaze who was belted by 290 Tramp. 269 Scotty blasted Coe with 76 Terry Mansfield doing the former only to take one in turn from 119 Cruncher with Frosty also blasting Mansfield as Sparky T-boned Scotty only to take a similar hit from a recovered Mansfield and Frosty blasted Cunningham. Mace pounded Vincent with a T-bone and a head-on with Sparky T-boning the former with Scotty weighing in on the latter only to cop a portion of Humber from Cunningham. Gathercole T-boned Cunningham and Turbo did the former in turn allowing Vincent to nail the Hitman while Scotty connected on Cunningham after the Gypsy Crew pilot hit Vincent and Cruncher. Vincent bounced to T-bone Mansfield with the latter meeting Cruncher on the nose, the Supreme champion also meeting Turbo in similar fashion as did Scotty and Mansfield. Sparky belted Scotty with Vincent T-boning the Plymouth leaving him prone to an attack from Mansfield while Sparky scored on Frosty and Scotty's unstoppable XJ. Vincent finished Mansfield with a head-on and Scotty zeroed in for a massive head-on to Vincent with Scotty trashing the Vincent. The world champ then met Sparky on the nose but the latter had already been disqualified for being out of the event at the start so Vincent won from Scotty with the latter also getting the entertainer award.

A quite superb field of 41 Ministox gathered for their 2004 Suffolk open Championship with plenty of visitors who came from Incarace, PRI and Spedeworth.

It was whites and yellow only for the first heat with 580 Rob Hull spun by 317 Dwayne Powell as 387 Bobby Miles did the same to 389 Charlie Garrod. 289 Steve Chapman showed 303 Craig Yates to the wall and soon took the lead from 314 Scott Sands while Garrod was collected by 395 Thomas Sutton. Sands then had a rough ride getting spun by Powell and again by 536 Scott Waite with the second crash seeing him hit the inner wall very hard terminating the race which had almost run its course with Chapman winning ahead of 307 Jack Tuffen and 371 Jason Cobbold

Nearly 30 cars lined up for the second heat open to yellows, blues and reds with the race stopped early when Powell struggled to get going and was collected by the pack bringing out the reds with 139 Mark Rainer taking a big knock in the chaos while 548 Kerri Witherington smashed into the inner wall hard. The restart saw 347 Sam Renolds spin as 350 Travis Cope and 521 Stu Palmer found the wall after the latter stuffed 562 Liam Friel. 114 Damien Wright removed 339 Ashley Garrod and 126 Sam Worltly did the same to a recovered Palmer as 312 Luke Grief took a comfortable win from 536 Scott Waite and 503 Ben Murray.

Whites, blues and reds for the final heat and down to 17 cars with only a couple of whites lining up one of which being 356 Sid Cooper who was spun by 186 Todd Jones while 132 Daniel Wenn hooked our 593 Jack Harrington towards the end. 149 Jamie Sampson stormed through to win from Wright and Murray.

24 qualifiers returned for the final with Sampson spinning Cope and Harrington straight away before 349 Phil Smith had Powell out resulting in the latter getting clobbered by the pack as Chapman took out Grief and a big pile-up formed on the road bend in which defending champion 151 Scott Aldridge was shaken bringing out the reds. The restart was shortlived as Grief fenced Cobbold but rolled himself on impact while Harrington smashed through the inside wall trying to avoid it. Another reds flag and with all the drivers ok we were soon away again with 328 Mark Hughes leading them as Wortley spun Miles and Wright removed Cope as Sampson took over up front but got held up by back markers allowing Wortley to come through and snatch it, Sampson second with Smith and 339 Ashley Garrod completing the trophy spots.

Heat one: 289 Steve Chapman, 307, 371, 328, 536, 329, 336, 395, 356, 580
Heat two: 312 Luke Grief, 536, 503, 149, 151, 126, 317, 593, 387, 114
Heat three: 149 Jamie Sampson, 114, 503, 562, 349, 521, 132, 350, 593, 339
Grand Final: 126 Sam Worltley, 149, 349, 339, 132, 580, 350, 562, 336

A quite superb nights action, albeit it a little long finishing at around 11.30pm but I don't think many people minded too much when both formulas delivered such great racing. Well done especially to the banger brigade for making a brilliant effort to find something special for the meeting and getting stuck in.
